YEAR OF ZEN: SPRING: DAY 65

Q: Focusing on the process rather than the goal is often helpful. What is your experience with confusing product with practice?

A: As I have gotten older I think that I have gotten better at honoring the practice and doing of a thing more than the goal and end result. I have learned through experience that often this is really the only way to get something done. I am far from perfect at this, but I try and remind others all the time that there are no perfect people or practices. Consequently, we owe it to ourselves to embrace the mindset of continual iterative improvement and ongoing process refinement. When I do get mired and overwhelmed, I find it helpful to pause, do something else, and return with a focus on one small piece of the puzzle that I can maybe solve at this moment in time.
