YEAR OF ZEN: SUMMER: DAY 35

Girl Sweeping - William McGregor Paxton

Q: What is it like to do something because it just needs to be done?

A: A good example of this for me is cleaning the house. Saturdays are generally the day of the week where I throw myself into the work of cleaning the house. I have broken the work down into component parts in my mind. This helps me manage the work better. I usually begin by cleaning the kitchen. This is followed by vacuuming. I then move on to cleaning the bathrooms. This is followed by cleaning the steps to the basement and then emptying out our cat’s litter box in the basement. Along the way I empty trash cans and gather things to throw into the laundry. It is a focused activity where I often lose myself to the work.
