YEAR OF ZEN: WINTER: DAY 38

Webb’s View of the Molecular Cloud Chameleon I

Q: Sometimes spiritual life isn’t comfortable. How do you appreciate this?

A: Some of the most transcendent and meaningful (I’ll call them spiritual) moments in my life have come at times of struggle, whether it be physical discomfort climbing a mountain or finding myself in the thralls of ecstasy or depths of grief. I think periodic voyages into these extreme places in life are crucial for growth and perspective but they need to be balanced with a return to stasis. The level state that compose the large part of our day-to-day lives should be informed by the extremes, but still be the shelter we find refuge in the vast majority of the time.
