YEAR OF ZEN: AUTUMN: DAY 25

Capitoline Wolf - Antonio del Pollailo

Q: Sometimes you need to howl. When does it make sense to do this in your life?

A: A howl tends to resonate at one of the poles of my experience: intense joy or intense grief. These are places that I don’t occupy often simply because the physical cost of living in those spaces is high and equilibrium is sustainable. That said, periodic life spent in those polar extremes is both necessary and unavoidable. And in that space, experience is often beyond words, making a primal howl the best (and only) form of expression.
