YEAR OF ZEN: SUMMER: DAY 27
Watson in the Ruby Mountains
Q: Imagine life from an animals perspective. What do you have in common? What is it adept at that you are not?
A: For this exercise, I open my eyes and try to see things from the perspective of my dog, Watson. We have had him for eleven years and for all of those years he has been a high strung terrier that barks at almost everything. Looking through his eyes, I imagine that the world is a noisy, flashing, and complex place. We suspect that he might have vision issues which would likely lead to a redeployment of resources to other places (like his hearing). I imagine that for him, things that disrupt his stasis are deeply upsetting and worthy of barking about. This gives me more compassion for when his barking fits break my own stasis and routines.
