YEAR OF ZEN: SUMMER: DAY 38

Two Men Contemplating the Moon - Caspar David Friedrich

Q: Turn off technology and track your mind. How does this feel?

A: Last year I read “Meditations on the Trail” by Christopher Ives and in that book he makes the point that disconnecting from technology (and the cares and worries they bring) is essential when setting out on a hike. This echoes my own experience where I have tended to treat that space as sacred and free from distraction. And, I usually return from those moments feeling calmer and more in control of myself and my situation. I need to remember to make the intentional effort to do this more in my “regular” day-to-day living.
