YEAR OF ZEN: SUMMER: DAY 76

Spinning a Yarn - Josef Kinzel

Q: Who are your neighbors? Who in your vicinity could use periodic assistance?

A: Great question that I sometimes think on. I have effectively lived in (or been connected) to our house and neighborhood for my entire life. The loss of neighborhood community has been a rising trend everywhere and I have see it play out in my own part of the world. I do know several of our neighbors and a lot of them are elderly folks who have been here since I was a kid. I worry that when they go a pattern will play out that I have witnessed with several homes on our street, where their house will be sold and converted into short-term rentals, with transitory neighbors coming and going. I fear that will only exacerbate the already flagging neighborhood community that tenuously hangs on at the moment.
