YEAR OF ZEN: WINTER: DAY 19

Q: Write a few lines about your physical posture for meditation.

A: When I am mindfully approaching meditation my posture is seated, legs folded, hands lightly grasped in front of my, eyes unfocused, and back straight. It is the posture that feel the most natural for the activity. It is also one I rarely strike. Meditation for me usually comes when I am lying in bed, trying to fall asleep. The posture there is much less deliberate. The right (only?) word I can think for it is “sprawling.” What it lacks in grace is usually makes up for in effectiveness.
