YEAR OF ZEN: AUTUMN: DAY 58

Tower of Babel - Pieter Brueghel the Elder

Q: Have you ever experienced turning intimate life into things, descriptions, in such a way that you lose track of the true intimacy?

A: Yes, I think this is the eternal struggle with (and limitations of) language. The closest we can get to it is through poetry, and that can go a long way without still completely closing the gap. Other artistic expression moves in the same direction but with ultimately the same result. This is not a failing on their part but just the reality that some things defy explanation. Love is probably the most ever-present example of this. It is simply never big enough of a word.
