YEAR OF ZEN: SPRING: DAY 58

Q: Has a teacher, or anyone you looked up to, disappointed you? Has your understanding of that changed over time?

A: There have been clear moments in my life where a teacher/authority figure “let me down,” though I would characterize it less as let down and more them revealing their humanity. And while those moments might have sucked in the moment they were important lessons in terms of demonstrating to me that we are all human. We all have good days and bad. Anyone claiming authority and espousing leadership should acknowledge this truth. I hope that this insight has made me a better person and teacher to others.
