Big Cottonwood Canyon

A canyon in Salt Lake County that was named by Mormon leader Brigham Young after Mormon arrival in the Salt Lake Valley in 1847. The Big Cottonwood Canyon stream drains near 7200 South and Wasatch Boulevard and then flows west into the Jordan River. Big Cottonwood Canyon falls within the ancestral, traditional, and contemporary lands of the Núu-agha-tʉvʉ-pʉ̱ (Ute).
